MCM Pupil Named Runner-Up in International COBIS Art Competition

Congratulations go to Wendy Cho, who has achieved Runner-Up in this year’s COBIS Art Competition for the KS4 category with her artwork Treasure. With entries from 165 schools worldwide, this is a significant achievement and one we are incredibly proud to celebrate.

Wendy created Treasure as part of her work within the MCM Art Scholar Programme, where she has consistently demonstrated maturity, curiosity, and a willingness to engage with challenging social themes. The artwork depicts a woman searching through a dumpster, exploring the idea that one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure. It reflects differing perceptions of value while highlighting resilience, creativity, and the beauty found in overlooked or discarded items.

The judges were particularly moved by Wendy’s expressive handling of paint, commenting:

“This moving portrayal of poverty uses rough brushstrokes which blur the lines between the woman and the bin. This is a very moving image.”

As part of her success, Wendy has received a COBIS certificate and an Amazon voucher, along with additional prizes provided by Dryad Education, the competition partner, including a Creative Colour Intro Pack for runner-up students. The final artworks have also been published on the COBIS website for others around the world to enjoy.

This achievement is a wonderful reflection of the depth and ambition encouraged through the Art Scholar Programme, and a real testament to Wendy’s commitment and sensitivity as a young artist.
