Accelerated English & EAL

Accelerated English Programme Overview

Marlborough College Malaysia is one of the most famous and successful British international boarding and day schools in Asia. For pupils to be able to fully access the British curriculum that is taught here, a certain level of English is required. With individuals for whom English is a second language, the required level of English can be hard to achieve so the College runs an Accelerated English Programme.

Pupils are offered the opportunity to enter the programme for one to three terms with regular reviews carried out by the Marlborough College Accelerated English Programme staff. The programme gives pupils a Marlborough College experience which runs parallel to the mainstream curriculum. Pupils will generally be grouped according to their English ability and it is available for pupils from Year 4 to Year 8.

For Shell (Year 9 in Senior School), pupils will receive four EAL lessons per week with a Senior School English teacher who is part of the EAL team.

How to apply?

Initially, external pupils can apply by completing a Marlborough College Malaysia Enquiry Form. Following enquiry, you will then be asked to complete a Registration Form and an assessment, after which an interview will take place. Based on the results of the assessment, pupils will then be offered a place on the programme. Places are limited.

Please note that the Accelerated English Programme has a separate fee structure.  For further information please download our brochure or contact our admissions team.

English as an Additional Language

At Marlborough College Malaysia we have pupils from all around the world who speak many different languages and we embrace this diversity. For some children, to get the most out of their education it is necessary for them to have extra support in English in the form of EAL (English as an Additional Language) lessons.

The EAL department is comprised of specialist teachers skilled in educating speakers of other languages from around the world, in various learning environments. They utilise modern methodology and technology to ensure maximum language development.

The lessons take place during the school day at the same time as other languages (Spanish and Malay) classes. Please note that additional charges apply for EAL lessons.

Our admissions team will assist you in the language assessment process and any questions you may have.
