Barton Farm

Barton Farm is an important part of the MCM experience, offering a space for the entire community to connect and learn. It helps everyone, from Pre-school children to parents, get involved and build a strong sense of community. The farm promotes well-being by teaching pupils how to care for animals and plants, grow, harvest, and prepare the food they have grown. Barton Farm also supports sustainability by composting food waste, recycling paper, and collecting rainwater. It has continued to flourish since its inception from a pupil led IB project, regularly adding new crops, animals, and activities. It is indeed a haven of tranquility and productivity where pupils learn first hand how vital it is to care for the environment.

Parent Community

Parents make up the team of people who volunteer at the farm, helping with the planting, growing and harvesting of crops.

Boarders

Senior and Prep boarders regularly visit on weekends to tend their vegetable patches and harvest the produce for use by the catering team.

Pre-Prep School

The Pre-Prep and Nursery classes are active users, taking walks around the Farm, enjoying Golden Time, sampling the produce and listening to Story Time in the shade of the atap.

The Lake

Situated behind the Preparatory School is The Lake. It boasts a boathouse storing paddle boards, canoes, kayaks and an outdoor classroom space. Pupils use a purpose-built floating pontoon and jetty to access the lake, allowing them to explore the mangroves and jungle bordering the school.

There is also a real focus on improving the biodiversity of the lake, where new varieties of fish have been introduced, providing pupils with an opportunity for catch-and-release fishing. An abundance of wildlife has now returned to the area, with fish eagles, Stork-billed kingfishers, and a family of otters becoming regular visitors to The Lake.
