Marlborough College Malaysia strives to provide the leadership and life skills that a career in any sphere will call for.
From management skills, teamwork, organisational and presentation skills to empathy, communication skills and personal motivation, an education at Marlborough College Malaysia is reach, varied and well-rounded, and it prepares students for the world beyond.
Learning through doing. Growing through challenge.
Marlborough College Malaysia strives to develop the whole individual. But, whilst the emphasis is on independence there is a dedicated Sixth Form team to support our students.
Moreover, there is the MCM community. Along, with the facilities, space and sports on offer there is also the camaraderie and friendships of a very special school.
If that is not enough: beyond school-life there is also the ongoing MCM community, the Marlburian Club. This alumni network supports students after their sixth form has ended. It continues to value the friendships and bonds that were formed during their time at school.
International Baccalaureate
In August 2014 MCM began the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with our first cohort of pupils. This is a coherent and balanced programme of study that maintains breadth but allows for specialisation.
The IB Diploma requires pupils to study one subject from each of five groups and one other, plus completing the core aspects of Creativity, Action and Service, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Three of these subjects must be taken at Higher Level and the other three at Standard Level. At the conclusion of the courses, each subject is given a points score, with 7 being the best down to 1. Extra points, to a maximum of 3 will be awarded for performance in the core aspects. This gives a maximum possible score of 45 points.
Pre-IB Programme
The Pre-IB Programme at Marlborough College Malaysia offers students the ideal transition into the IB Diploma, providing the time, space and support to adapt, grow and flourish within our inspiring and inclusive community.
Pupils benefit from:
- Expert academic preparation guided by IB specialists
- Access to the full Marlborough experience – sports, music, drama and co-curricular life
- Boarding and day options within a warm, international community
- A proven pathway to the world’s leading universities
These ‘soft skills’ are not as easily acquired as the name might suggest. They are present in sports – which is one part of what makes Marlborough College Malaysia so great – but we offer so many other practical ways of acquiring them:
- Prefects and Head of House – Leadership, organisational and management skills.
- Peer Mentoring – empathy, teamwork, communication skills.
- Lectern Club – formal public speaking.
- Marlburian Committee – organisation, teamwork, presentation skills.
- CAS – independence, ambition…
- Outreach – meeting the needs of others, teamwork, inspiration, support.
- Gold IA – the ultimate outdoor challenge.
The MCM philosophy is very much in line with the IB philosophy. The qualification asks more of students than just the acquisition and demonstration of knowledge through examination. Instead, it pushes students to be risk-takers, caring, principled, and open-minded. It also challenges students, in a practical way, to understand how they learn, why they learn, and how they can use problem solving skills to make a difference.
Along with ‘soft skills’ comes confidence, self-belief, self-assurance and resourcefulness.
