At Munawir Hill, leadership isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a living, breathing part of our culture. From sporting fields to house kitchens, from assembly halls to international adventures, our boys are continually stepping up to lead, inspire, and shape the boarding experience for themselves and those around them.
A Tradition of Leadership
It’s no coincidence that numerous peer mentors, prefects, and the last three school senior prefects have emerged from Munawir Hill. Known historically for its sporting excellence, the House has in recent years extended its dominance into culture and competition, especially in the prestigious Master’s Cup. Leadership in Munawir Hill is as diverse as our pupils, taking many forms both formal and informal.
Leading by Example
Senior boys are role models for younger pupils, taking on mentoring roles that help bridge the gap across year groups. Our vertical G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) family groups allow for shared learning, empathy, and support, where leadership is about listening as much as it is about guiding.
Whether it’s Sachein S. captaining the senior football team or leading the House as Head of House, Jean P. representing the school at the World Disc Golf Championships, or Santiago R. organising our outreach projects like beach clean-ups and charity drives, these pupils show what positive masculinity and responsibility look like in action.
Leadership doesn’t stop at the school gates. Senior students like Olivier B. and Mithrann P. have taken their leadership global, representing Munawir Hill in Nepal as part of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (IA). They embody the House’s ethos: service, ambition, and humility.
A Community that Encourages Growth
Under the leadership of Senior Housemaster Mr Baker, whose values of safety, wellbeing, academic progress, and enjoyment form the core of the boarding house, Munawir Hill offers a unique environment where leadership is nurtured over time.
As Mr Baker says, “With more freedom in a senior house comes more responsibility. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching.” Quotes like these line the walls of Munawir Hill as reminders of the standards we set and the aspirations we support.
A Home from Home
Our newly refurbished accommodation mirrors the vibrancy of the boys who live here. With everything from a slate-bed pool table, PS5 and 75-inch TV, dartboard, basketball hoop, and table tennis to mini-football goals, the environment encourages not just play but camaraderie.
And yet, as any boarder will tell you, it’s not the facilities that define the House; it’s the people. The friendships forged, the challenges overcome together, and the laughs shared in non-working hours are what make Munawir Hill feel like home.
Balancing Banter and Responsibility
In Mr Baker’s words, “Leadership means also knowing the difference between banter and bullying.” It’s a fine line, but one we walk with care. Leadership is also about creating a safe space where boys feel free to be themselves without fear or the need to conform. When pupils feel seen and supported, they take more risks, strive harder, and support one another.
Looking Ahead
We remind them that with leadership comes not just privilege, but accountability, and that they have the world in their hands. As we look to the future, we are confident that our House will continue to be shaped by the boys who rise to the challenge, lift others with them, and lead with heart. At Munawir Hill, a boy is never truly alone.
