Sixth Form

Why Marlborough College Malaysia

At this crucial juncture, the College aims to ensure that pupils are well informed and supported. Our small community and dedicated Common Room ensure that the needs of all Sixth Form students are met.

Small classes enhance the students’ learning experience. The e-library has been developed particularly with the Sixth Form in mind supporting the independent research and referencing skills they need for their IB Diploma and for their future undergraduate studies.

All students at Marlborough College Malaysia meet weekly with their tutors on an individual basis to help with planning, time management and workload; to build resilience in the face of challenge; to provide time for self-reflection and to nurture emotional intelligence. Marlborough prides itself on its exemplary pastoral care; tutors are expertly supported by House Masters and Mistresses, and by a team of listeners and a counsellor. The dedicated Sixth Form building is called The Marlburian and it is staffed every day until 6pm. All Sixth Form students can drop in to work in a supervised environment or seek extra support with academic studies, managing CAS, the Extended Essay and university guidance.

The Saturday School programme includes Sixth Form assemblies, dedicated to such matters as well being, study skills, the Extended Essay process and university guidance.

As well as providing general and one-to-one careers and university guidance, the College regularly hosts guest lecturers and admissions staff from universities from all over the world. A universities fair, with more than 60 institutions is also an annual event.

Jake Cooper

University of Queensland / (Sports and Exercise Science)

“When I joined Marlborough College Malaysia I was not achieving well in academics and had no realistic goal for the future, post school. In my time in MCM, and with the help of many beaks, House Masters and tutors, I went from failing every IGCSE I was taking, to passing them all. This momentum carried on into the IB Diploma. During my Sixth Form years I was elected as prefect and then senior prefect and, despite being busy with these responsibilities, my IB results were more than sufficient to be accepted into one of Australia’s best universities to continue studying Sports Science.”

Gary Tan, 2017

Imperial College, London / (Biochemistry)

“Marlborough College Malaysia created a very supportive learning community around the excellent IB syllabus. The work-life balance on campus has since become a part of me and has helped me to manage my time well between social activities and studies.”

Martha Harrison, 2018

University of Birmingham / (English and Theatre)

“It’s impossible to choose just one memory from my time in the Sixth Form from the TOK weekend to the Leavers’ Ball, the ‘class of 2018’ events we had throughout the two years were always a highlight. However, performing my Theatre HL group and individual projects were incredible moments to treasure. In the most obvious way, MCM prepared me for the future by giving me the support and motivation to achieve the grades I needed. However, more importantly, MCM provided an atmosphere full of kindness, which allowed me to find my passion for learning organically, as well as boosting my confidence immensely.”

Qamarina Nor’Azman, 2017

Cardiff University / (Architecture)

“Throughout my five years at Marlborough, I adopted the three significant values that encompasses the College’s educational philosophy: compassion, companionship and conversation. The Master told me that the actions of a few individuals will make a huge difference in society as a whole and thus, the world. Ever since, I have taken his words as a challenge to contribute to creating a better tomorrow for the people around me as I have always believed that I have the responsibility to serve my community. Not only that, Marlborough College Malaysia helped me develop my critical thinking and leadership skills. The school taught me to look beyond one perspective in order to get a holistic understanding of a subject.”
