Housemaster of Apollo: Stuart Brown
Boarding Housemasters and HousemistressesOriginally from Northern Ireland, Stuart attended Campbell College, Belfast for seven years. Campbell is an all-boys day and boarding school with a rich history that prides itself in an outstanding co-curricular program and a commitment to exceptional pastoral care in the development of the whole child. Coming from a sporting family, Stuart was captain of the athletics and cross-country teams, and also swam competitively for the school. His interest in middle-distance running led him to represent Northern Ireland in several international competitions.
Whilst continuing competitive sport, Stuart pursued a psychology degree which culminated in a Masters at Queens University, Belfast. During his study, an interest in Educational Psychology led to him working in schools and enjoying being part of children’s learning. He completed his PGCE at University College London, via the Teach First graduate scheme, an educational charity, focused on eliminating educational disadvantage for children from low socio-economic backgrounds in some of the most deprived areas of the United Kingdom.
A Masters in Educational Leadership (also at UCL) followed, where he became particularly interested in leadership styles and the effective Continued Professional Development of staff members. This interest led to summer spent in Tanzania leading educational training workshops for local teachers in rural parts of the country, which, as well as being extremely rewarding, was very beneficial for his own teaching practise.
Prior to Marlborough College Malaysia, Stuart worked in the state sector in inner city primary schools across London and the Midlands in the United Kingdom, enjoying opportunities to co-ordinate co-curricular programmes and being a Year Group Leader. Joining MCM as a Year 5 form tutor in 2017, one of the aspects of College life he enjoyed the most was being an evening tutor in the boys boarding house, where he thrived in opportunities to inspire the boys in a very different context to the school day. In 2018, he moved onsite becoming Senior Resident House Tutor to Andy Gough (now Deputy Headteacher in the prep school), which served as an excellent internship for becoming Housemaster in 2020.
Stuart lives in Apollo with his wife, Katie, who teaches in the Pre-Prep and their two children Theo and Sophie.
