Marlborough College Malaysia enjoyed an outstanding day at the STEM Racing Malaysia Southern Regional Finals on Thursday, 10th September, with all three MCM teams – Voltan Motorsports, Aerotech Racing and Zenith – successfully competing against some of the strongest STEM Racing teams from across the Southern Region.
The competition represented the culmination of many months of commitment, including a considerable number of hours worked by the pupils during the summer holidays. Throughout the event, the teams were challenged across the full range of STEM Racing disciplines. This included car design and engineering, manufacturing, scrutineering and technical inspection, race performance, reaction racing, portfolio assessment, pit display judging and formal verbal presentations. Pupils were required not only to demonstrate the performance of their cars, but also to explain and defend their engineering decisions, communicate professionally with judges and demonstrate effective teamwork and project management.
There was further recognition for MCM through two special awards. Aerotech Racing received the Sustainability Award, recognising the team’s approach to sustainability within its project, while Voltan Motorsports received the Digital Award, celebrating excellence in the team’s digital work and communication.
Most importantly, the achievements extended across the entire MCM contingent. Following the competition, all three MCM teams were awarded the ultimate honour of being selected to progress to the STEM Racing Malaysia National Competition. For Voltan Motorsports, Aerotech Racing and Zenith all to advance from the Southern Regional Finals is a tremendous achievement and reflects the depth of engineering, creativity, teamwork and determination demonstrated by our pupils. Special mention must also go to Zenith, who reached the Nationals on their very first time competing at this level.
Beyond the awards and qualification, the competition provided an exceptional real-world STEM experience. Pupils applied their knowledge of Physics, aerodynamics, CAD, engineering design and manufacturing, alongside skills in marketing, finance, sustainability, digital communication, presentation and project management. Working under the pressure of live competition also demanded resilience, adaptability and excellent teamwork.
A very special thank you must go to Mr Fauzi for his tremendous support of the students and teams throughout the competition and their preparations, and to Mrs Inskip for her invaluable support and commitment to the students during the event. Their time, encouragement and assistance were greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to Voltan Motorsports, Aerotech Racing and Zenith. Three MCM teams entered the Southern Regional Finals, three successfully completed an extremely demanding competition, two returned with special category awards, and all three now progress to the National Competition.
We wish them every success as they prepare to represent Marlborough College Malaysia on the national stage.
