Introducing Speech and Drama

The Drama Department is proud to offer Speech and Drama to Marlborough College Malaysia. We provide lessons which challenge pupils in a supportive environment, tailoring sessions to suit pupil’s individual ability whilst building on their existing skills through exploration of inspiring and age-appropriate play texts.

Lessons of Speech and Drama are available to pupils from Year 7 to Upper Sixth; pupils can choose to study Acting, Devising, or Reading in Performance. These lessons may be used to work toward graded exams at their own pace, to simply develop performance skills or to prepare audition material for Drama Schools or University. Lessons are forty-five minutes in length and delivered once a week, with the option to attend them alone, or with a peer completing the same syllabus and grade (please note pupils can only complete solo lessons for Reading in Performance).

Examination sessions are offered at an additional cost with a visiting LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) examiner. LAMDA is the oldest Drama School in the UK, founded in 1861. LAMDA offers examinations in a range of Speech and Drama disciplines from Entry Level through to Grade 8. Over a hundred thousand people take LAMDA exams every year; we are delighted to offer this opportunity to the pupils at MCM, developing knowledge and skills which will assist them through their schooling career and life beyond the College.

Meet the Teacher

April Boyd joined MCM in August 2025 having lived and worked in Malaysia for 7 years before returning to the UK via Morocco for 4 years. April finds teaching rewarding; she loves stimulating a yearning and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge in others by sparking their interests, motivation and enthusiasm. She hopes to pass on the passion and knowledge of theatre that was instilled in her, so that pupils can carry it forward and draw on it in their future endeavours.

“Returning to Malaysia to work for such a renowned school has been a deeply rewarding experience. I have loved teaching our very first cohort of students for the LAMDA qualification, and I am incredibly excited to build on this momentum!”
