Swimming

at Marlborough College Malaysia

Overview

Swimming is an important life skill and a key part of Physical Education here at MCM.

Pupils from Reception up to Year 6 have one swimming lesson a week, covering water skills, stroke development, fitness, water safety and basic life saving, and fun games such as water polo. Pupils in Pre-Prep have swimming lessons in the Lent and Summer terms to build their water confidence, while pupils in Year 7&8 have two blocks of swimming a year – lifesaving and water polo – alongside PE and Strength & Conditioning.

The swim team also organises the popular house swim meets and aquathlons, which allow the children to compete in a friendly environment whilst showing off their skills.

Facilities

At MCM we have two pools, a 6 lane 50m pool and a smaller teaching pool in Pre-Prep. Lessons are taught by qualified swimming teachers, who also coach the school swim team.

Training

Trials for the swim team are at the start of each school year, but talented and interested pupils may join at other times. The team covers both the Prep and Senior schools and is divided into different training groups based upon ability, from bronze new swimmers – pupils just starting out in competitive swimming – to Elite – our fastest swimmers. The team trains up to five times a week at school year-round and often competes in meets with local international schools, with some other meets in Johor and over the border in Singapore each year.
