Overview
Cricket is traditionally a major sport within Marlborough College UK and this is no different in Malaysia. From Year 3 cricket is a prominent sport with the curriculum for both boys and girls and this is developing very quickly throughout the school. We have fixtures from Year 4 upwards and this varies from soft ball in the early years to hard ball from Year 6 upwards. Having one of the premier cricket facilities in Malaysia we run multiple tournaments from a 6-a-side schools day to the first Johor T20 Tournament which gives our pupils experience of Senior Cricket as well.
Johor Cricket is very strong and we are continuing to develop links for our pupils to join state level competition. We also have developing relationships with schools in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. We have experienced and very well qualified coaches throughout the school and this allows us to cater for all abilities and experiences.
Facilities
We have one of the few top class grass wickets in Southeast Asia, with our dedicated groundsman solely responsible for the maintenance of the square. We can host state-level tournaments such as the Sukma Games and our facilities are developing all the time. We have 3 astroturf nets and indoor facilities for indoor cricket. We have two bowling machines for individual sessions with our pupils.
Training
As a Performance Sport, we train twice a week in season 3, February to April, alongside extra training after school. Fixtures are scheduled throughout the week as well as on Saturday mornings; training will be scheduled if there is not a fixture. We are working hard to develop a local academy with a club that trains every week on Friday nights. This will become an outlet for more fixtures for our more experienced pupils looking to develop their craft.
