Boarding

“I live in a 50 bedroom house, on a 90-acre plot, with two swimming pools, my own football pitches, an athletics track, squash courts, basketball courts, a theatre, sports hall, gym, music block, tennis courts and a climbing wall. I even have my own library…and to top it all, I am with my best friends everyday…I’m a boarder at Marlborough College Malaysia!”

The working week at Marlborough is full and, for boarders, weekends also offer an extensive programme of structured activities, social occasions and other opportunities.

The forming of close-knit relationships is essential to effective boarding and it is often in the ‘spaces between’ – between lessons, before school, after school, after prep and before bedtime that boarders converse, discuss and engage with each other. This is in addition to the wide-ranging curriculum and sporting activities on offer.

Whilst boarding at Marlborough, the pupils are at the centre of an intricate structure that supports them through their academic, emotional and physical growth. The three Cs are central; Compassion, Companionship and Conversation.

Our boarders are accommodated in four large boarding buildings. Boarding girls belong to either Iskandar, Honan or Steel House and are accommodated in Gaia or Artemis. Boys belong to either Taylor, Wills or Munawir Hill and are accommodated in Atlas or Apollo.

Through our various Boarders committees and boarders leadership opportunities, we actively use Pupil voice to adapt and enhance our boarding provision. This coupled with our international award-winning pastoral care and partnership with the University of Pennsylvania, ensures the boarding community is a vibrant and thriving place to be.
