Sixth Form Academic Scholarships

Sixth Form Academic Scholars at Marlborough College Malaysia are among the brightest in their cohort and destined for outstanding results. Beyond their achievements, they demonstrate flair, independence of mind, curiosity and resilience, with the confidence to embrace challenges and the empathy to lead.

Our comprehensive scholarship programme supports them by providing opportunities to extend their intellectual interests and develop their talents far beyond the regular curriculum, up to 100% tuition fee reduction. Sixth Form Academic Scholarships are open to current Hundred (Year 11) pupils, as well as to new pupils applying to join the Sixth Form.

Application Criteria

To be considered for a Sixth Form Academic Scholarship, candidates should:

  • Provide evidence of outstanding academic performance and potential through, for example school reports, predicted grades, public examination results (IGCSEs or equivalent, if taken), academic recommendations from your current school or another educational body, Cognitive Abilities Test or equivalent .
  • Show intellectual curiosity, aspiration, and a positive approach to learning.
  • Be fluent in English.
  • Display academic ambition and engagement beyond the classroom through super-curricular activities such as wider reading, academic competitions (e.g. Olympiads), research projects, or similar enrichment opportunities, with leadership or outreach an advantage.

Application Process 

Applications and all supporting documentation must be received by the Admissions Team by Sunday, 31st January 2027 at 9pm.

Candidates are asked to provide:

  • A completed application form which includes a personal statement answering specific questions about current academic progress, engagement and qualities as an excellent learner.
  • For external candidates, the contact details of a referee from their current school who can speak to their academic ability and performance (alongside the usual Confidential Pupil Reference required as part of our admissions process).
  • Latest school report.
  • Scanned copies of the applicant’s passport and parents’ passports.
  • Passport photo of applicant.
  • Any other relevant documents (please specify).
  • Completed the online Cognitive Ability Test (CAT)

Suitable applicants will be invited to an assessment day on Monday, 22nd February 2027, which will include:

  • Structured interviews
  • A written academic scholarship paper which will include a piece of writing in English, IGCSE level Mathematics problems and a test of critical thinking skills

Award Holders’ Responsibilities

To be named a Sixth Form Academic Scholar is both an honour and a responsibility. Our Scholars inspire others by their example, leading through curiosity, resilience and academic excellence while contributing fully to the life of Marlborough College Malaysia.

Award holders are expected to:

  • Contribute fully to the academic life of the College.
  • Act as role models in all areas of study, setting the standard for effort and attitude among their peers.
  • Champion academic excellence across the school and, when asked, mentor younger Medawar Scholars (Shell and above).
  • Participate actively in additional clubs, societies, and scholarship projects that promote academic progress, and take on leadership roles.
  • Demonstrate exemplary effort, attendance, and punctuality in lessons and additional sessions.
  • Support relevant school events when requested.

Sixth Form Academic Scholars will benefit from:

  • A tuition fee reduction of between 10% and 100%, awarded on a means-tested basis*.
  • Membership of the Medawar Society, named after the Nobel Prize-winning Old Marlburian Biologist, Sir Peter Medawar.
  • Access to our comprehensive academic scholarship programme which allows our scholars to develop their intellectual interests in many different ways outside of the regular curriculum.

  • Scholarship fee reduction applies to tuition fees only.
  • SST (Sales and Service Tax) is payable on the gross annual fee.
  • Applications and supporting documentation must be received by the Admissions team by Sunday, 31st January 2027 at 9pm.
  • Suitable applicants will be invited to an assessment day on Monday, 22nd February 2027.
  • Unsuccessful applicants will be notified in writing.
