Touch Rugby – U16A Girls

On Saturday 8th June, the U16A Girls Touch team headed to Sultan Ismail Secondary School in Johor Bahru for a tournament with 24 teams invited from across Malaysia.

The girls beat Amethyst 2-1 in the first group game with a last play winning try and followed this up with a steady 2-0 victory against local competitors STAR Panthers. This saw them qualify as group winners and into the cup quarter final against TSJA Mermaids. Composed defence gave the opposition little room for opportunity and the girls took their chances when they came to win 2-0. The Cup Semi-Final was a tight affair but ultimately we were too strong for Angerrik Lynx and came out the victors by a margin of 3 tries to 1.
The final was a much more challenging proposition against Kulai Development, a local academy side who had some talented and very quick players. The girls battled hard but were unable to overcome the quality of the opposition and the partisan home crowd support. A silver medal and runners up place is a commendable achievement for a playing group who still have so much room for growth and improvement. The future is bright.
