Prep School | ST2024 | Week 8

Dear Parents,

“Every new beginning comes from other beginning’s end” Seneca

It’s that time of year again and we say farewell to various staff across the Prep School this term. Ms Scanlan and Mr Kaminskas leave the Pre-Prep. Mr Lyon, Ms Allott, Ms Lowe, Mr Jones and Mr French also leave and take our best wishes with them. These people have all made an incredible contribution to MCM and we wish them all the best as they head to: the UK, Czech Republic, UK (x4) and Bahrain respectively.

We welcome new staff to the Prep, including of course Mr Wilson, the new Head of Prep. The movement of others to different responsibilities means that we can introduce Mr Clark as the new Head of Year Five and Mrs McGlinchey as the new Head of Year Seven. Don’t worry, Mr Roberts and Mr Sean Harvey are not leaving, but moving across to responsibilities as Deputy HMs in boarding – Munawir Hill and Taylor. I know Mr Clark and Mrs McGlinchey are really looking forward to their new responsibilities. Other familiar faces taking on new roles include Ms Rawlings (Head of Year 2), Mrs Burbury (Head of Year 3), Ms Rydlewski (Head of Prep Science), Mr Hoskins (Head of Prep Humanities), Mr Cassidy (Head of Prep Wellbeing) and Mrs Poignee (Head of Merlin). Good luck to everyone in their next adventures.

End of Year reports (Mrs Lockyer, Prep Deputy Head, Academic)

As you will be aware, the end-of-year reports are available today through the Parent Portal. I hope that this information will further enhance the understanding of your child’s progress alongside all you have gained from the Parent/Beak Meetings and Learning Showcases throughout the year.  After you have read through the report, if you have any further questions please relay them through your child’s form tutor in the first instance.  If your child only started at MCM this term you will receive a letter by email which will also be recorded on the parent portal. If you are unable to log into the parent portal, please contact

Before & After School updates

Please note all Before & After school clubs have concluded this week. We appreciate your support and participation throughout the year. Please note sessions will commence in the second week of September which is 2nd September 2024. Last week of clubs will be the week beginning 9th December 2024.

Summer Festival update – Saturday 15th June 3-8pm

Please do join us tomorrow for this fantastic event with a whole range of activities to enjoy, delicious food and drink and the fireworks finale after the Master’s first POPs Orchestra and Chorus Concert. The weather will not interrupt a fabulous afternoon, we have a range of alternative venues for everything – so don’t let any rain stop you.

Safeguarding message from the Safeguarding team (Mr Gough, Mrs Tomlinson and Mrs Cassidy)

TALKING about online harassment and abuse:

Sadly, many children and young people believe that online harassment and abuse are just a part of being online, in other words – normalised. This should never be the case, but it can be difficult to strike up a conversation. Internet Matters has an excellent guide for parents to use for conversation starters. You can download the guide here.

In addition to this, here is a great article on Smartphones to Dumbphones

Message from Mrs Cassidy and the Pre-Prep Team

I would like to apologise for some confusion last week after I mentioned packing up my house; I am just moving to a different street, not leaving MCM or Malaysia! I promise that you would have been the first people to know if I was.

A massive thank you this week to the Sports Department, who put together the most brilliant Sports Day events. Early Years loved their animal-themed activities and Year 1 to 3 were kept hugely occupied with an absolute feast of physical challenges. As if that wasn’t enough, the week has ended with the Summer Serenade, 2AK assembly and Year 2 sleepover – what an end to the penultimate end of the school year!

Next week will be incredibly busy and please make sure that you have made a note of upcoming events, such as the Pre-prep Prize Giving and the end of year class parties. We know that these last few days are filled with fun, but there is a lot to remember and appreciate your incredible support. We look forward to seeing you, if not before, on Thursday morning for prizes and fabulous performances from all the Pre-Prep pupils. A fitting celebration for another great year and many, many achievements both big and small.

“A memory is left when something happens and doesn’t completely unhappen” Edward de Bono

I love this description – a little something left to hold on to … and our days at the moment are filled with these not only the special events of Sports Days and performances, but also the everyday learning and friendships – as Mrs Cassidy says, those achievements, big and small. We look forward to joining you in making more memories this weekend at the Summer Festival.

Warm regards,

Rachel Eaton-Jones

Head of Prep School
