Prep School | ST2024 | Week 7

Dear Parents,

“And Speak to people Kindly”

Surah Baqarah Ayat 83

As we often say, this guidance, one of the Prep School strengths, is possibly the most important lesson anyone ever learns. In the olden days (when I was young) I remember being told ‘If you can’t think of anything nice to say, say nothing at all’. I try to live by it – but I am not that perfect human. I can however share with you that as we teachers are busy proofing reports, it is an absolute joy to read the kind tale of this academic year. There are targets in the reports, not to be unkind, but to help inspire aspiration in your children; help them on their way to the next step. But please enjoy the achievements and reflections on a year well lived. The reports will be published onto the parents portal next week. Enjoy.

This week encompassed a whole range of Prep experiences, from Tuesday’s MCM’s Got Talent (what a spectacular way to start a week), to year group photos (the Marlburian will be with you next term), the optician’s visit (lots of good news here), Friday’s assemblies (full of achievements)  and then I was able to share a video from Mr Wilson, the new Head of Prep as he makes his plans to join us in August. We all agreed he seems fantastic and I have been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time with him and could not be more pleased. Here is the video I shared with the children – please enjoy it as a first step in getting to know this wonderful gentleman.

Year 8 Ocean Child Conservation (Mr James Hoskins, Teachers of Prep Humanities)

On Wednesday 12th June 2024, we are excited for Year 8 pupils to take part in the Ocean Child Event. This is an engaging course designed to empower pupils with the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to create a brighter tomorrow. They will explore a wide range of topics from climate change to coral reefs, and explore innovative solutions to shape a sustainable future. This will finish with the Year 8s teaching their Year 4 buddies about what they have learnt throughout the day.

AIMS Languages Competition (Mrs Victoria Yu, Head of Prep Mandarin)

Twenty-seven pupils from Year 1 to Remove went to Garden International School KL for the Chinese, Bahasa, French, and Spanish language competition during the half-term holiday. With over 500 contestants, this was the largest AIMS Language Competition ever. Well done to the MCM AIMS Competition team. Congratulations to Ella Williams (Bronze) and Wendy Cho (Silver) for winning the Chinese as a Foreign Language Competition.

Message from Mrs Cassidy and the Pre-Prep Team

The first four days back at school have certainly raced past and I hope that half term provided all our families with some much-deserved rest and family time. I was packing up my house ready to move, and amongst other things, I found many toys that we packed to come to Malaysia four years ago. It already feels like a lifetime ago that my children played with Sylvanian Families and Lego, and it has made me reflect on how precious (though exhausting) the years with young children are. Luckily, I still get to benefit from your gorgeous children during my working day!

There is much to look forward to over the coming two weeks, with many events and performances including Sports Days and the Summer Serenade. Remember to make sure the children get plenty of sleep and time to relax and play, so that they can keep recharging those batteries. I look forward to seeing lots of you in school to share the end-of-year celebrations.

“Some people are worth melting for”

Olaf from Frozen

Ironically, rehearsals have been hotting up for Frozen. And I love this quote from the friendliest of Snowmen. I wish you all a wonderful weekend with some of your favourite people, those worth melting for.

Warm regards,

Rachel Eaton-Jones

Head of Prep School
