Umbria Jazz Festival Success

We are delighted to hear that one of our pupils, Dora Centola in Remove, recently passed the audition for the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy and will perform alongside top Jazz musicians this summer.

Dora who is a boarder in Artemis, has been attending weekly singing lessons with Miss Vanessa Wong since Year 8 and has performed in many of our lunchtime concerts as well as a range of other school events. When she heard about the Umbria Jazz Festival auditions, it seemed the perfect opportunity to perform to a larger audience. Dora recorded two songs including ‘Cry Me a River’ originally sung by Julie London and ‘Lullaby of Bird Land’ by The George Shearing Quintet which she then posted online for the judges to consider. Although she faced stiff competition, Dora was delighted when she was selected to perform.

In preparation for the event, Dora was asked to perform ‘Cry Me a River’ for her peers at MCM during the most recent lunchtime concert on Monday 25th March, singing beautifully and giving the audience a taste of her incredible talent.

The Umbria Jazz Festival is a 10-day event which brings together Jazz lovers in a celebration of music with performances from famous Jazz musicians such as Raye, Toto and Nile Rodgers to name but a few. We can’t wait to hear about Dora’s experience when she returns to MCM next academic year.
