Spotlight On: Community at MCM

With compassion, companionship and conversation at the heart of our educational philosophy here at Marlborough College Malaysia, it’s no surprise that we have a strong sense of community. The College is a place where everyone is welcomed  and there is a real focus on making our community as inclusive as possible.

The House system at the College fosters a sense of belonging and ensures that all pupils feel part of a team. In the Senior School, the Day Houses allow those from different year groups the chance to work together and form lasting friendships, with several House competitions and events throughout the year. Those in our Boarding Houses become part of a special group that call MCM their home during term time. Boarding exposes these pupils to people from all walks of life, helping them understand and respect those from different backgrounds and cultures. The weekends are a great chance for pupils to come together and get to know more about their peers. Whether it is a game of football on our pitches, paddle boarding on our beautiful lake, or arts and crafts in the boarding house, there is always something new to try with friends. Several staff members and their families live on site too which means that the College is a true ‘home from home’ and there are always plenty of beaks on hand to run activities or to simply to have a chat. Even when it is time for our students to move onto a new chapter in their lives and leave the College, they still remain part of the MCM community. When our Sixth Form students complete their IB Diploma, they are invited to join the Marlburian Club. Part of this membership includes access to a joint networking platform for the alumni of Marlborough College UK and Marlborough College Malaysia called ‘MC Global Connect’. The group enables Marlburians the opportunity to find a mentor, post jobs, request work experience or simply search for other alumni in a similar field or location. With over 10,000 members from around the world, this community provides a vast network of opportunities for alumni to engage and collaborate with like-minded individuals.

For our parents, there are also plenty of ways to get involved in College events  and our thriving ‘Friends of MCM’ group offers the perfect way to contribute. Parents and friends have played a vital part in bringing joy to so many pupils through a whole range of events and services. From dishing out sweet treats on a Friday after school, to organising informative talks and coffee mornings, to putting together our annual Christmas Fair, their hard work and support for the College adds that extra something special to MCM. They are also an excellent point of contact for our new pupils and parents and our Parent Ambassadors ensure that those new to the College are welcomed with open arms and well cared for.
