FoMCM Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness Morning

On Friday 3rd November, the Friends of MCM (FoMCM) hosted the third Coffee Morning of the Michaelmas Term. These mornings are a chance for new and old parents to come together and explore key topics of interest. The theme this time was Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness.

The first speaker was Mrs. Eaton-Jones who gave an incredibly moving speech in which she shared a little of her own personal story and experiences before discussing the importance of self screening for breast and prostate cancer to ensure early detection of the disease.

Next, Dr Mohd Roslan Bin Haron who specialises in Oncology at Gleneagles Hospital gave an informative talk about the different types of screening available for breast cancer and what both women and men should look out for when conducting their own self examination.

Then Urology expert, Dr Allen Sim from Gleneagles Hospital spoke about ‘Benign Prostate Hyperplasia and Prostate Cancer’ explaining more about how the prostate functions, what symptoms men should be aware of, and the various screening and treatment options available for prostate cancer.

After listening to the educational talks, our FoMCM community enjoyed some wonderful tea and scones, with all the money raised from the sale of scones, pins and bands going to Cancer charities.

Thanks go to our guest speakers, Ms Sari Wilson for organising the event and to parents Ms Taeko Ochi, Ms Eri Ishikawa, Ms Hiromi Tachibana, Ms Mizuki Suehiro, Ms Saori Ishii, Ms Sayuri Kanda and Ms Urara Takeuchi for making the delicious scones.

We look forward to welcoming our parent community to the next FoMCM coffee morning.
