Wellbeing in Schools Conference

We have now had some time to reflect upon our conference, the first such event that has been organised at MCM or within the region.

The agreed purpose with our partner, COBIS, was:

An exploration of how research and reflection can provide the foundation for flourishing schools; including insights from students, school leaders and prominent figures within education. Bringing together schools with an outstanding record of pastoral care from ages 3-18, across day and boarding to share innovative and inspirational initiatives.

The quality and range of speakers meant it certainly served its intended purpose and has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from all delegates, exhibitors and sponsors. The quality of speakers from leading schools all over the world was excellent and it was also a privilege to hear from Abby Dale-Bates, the Child & Family Psychologist from Komodo Wellbeing & from Professor Mushtak, CEO of Heriot-Watt University. Both delivered informative and inspirational talks on topics you can see in the programme. It was also great to hear two of our own students talk to the audience of over 100 delegates and impress all with their passion and sense of purpose. Explaining their role in helping our pupils to Flourish@MCM and what that meant to them, both Sophia and Justin (in Upper 6th) talked about our Body, Mind, Spirit, Community framework, how proud they were to be part its development and how much this holistic approach to wellbeing had helped them personally to thrive at the College and develop the confidence and character which has set them up for a wonderful life (taking the title from a wonderful film).

The conference certainly showed MCM at its very best: leaders in the field of wellbeing, providing a forum for outstanding schools to share inspirational initiatives and carrying all of this out within a normal school week. Huge credit to a team committed to a common purpose and delivering the highest quality in all we do.

Mr Cowie | Deputy Head of Pastoral

Day and Residential Educational Visits (EVs)

After a year of rapid development of co-curricular opportunities for our pupils, I am delighted to inform you that we have planned an extraordinary range of Day and Residential Educational Visits (EVs) for the next academic year across all year groups. These varied learning experiences are designed to offer incremental challenges and to inspire and enhance pupils’ experiences beyond the classroom. They will help to nurture the participants’ personal, social, and emotional development and to prepare them for success in both academic and real world endeavours.

Detailed information and letters for each EV will be sent in good time, but I thought it would be useful for you to know in advance the overview plan for the coming year. Below is a summary of the Residential EVs that are in the calendar, the dates of which are mostly fixed, but may vary slightly. The costs of each EV are estimates; the final amounts will depend on the costs at the time of booking, such as flights and so forth. Please also note that all EV charges are calculated on a cost neutral basis and are very carefully budgeted.

Whole College Residential Educational Visits from August 2023 to June 2024

Please note that pupils who are studying IGCSE Geography, IB Geography and IB Biology will need to attend their field work residential EVs.

It is very likely that other opportunities such as sporting tours, musical events or other residential EVs will arise. Details for these will be shared with parents in good time.

Many Day EVs have also been planned and details of these exciting opportunities will be shared in good time.

The Big Sing

Our Prep School Choir is delighted to have participated in the first ‘Big Sing’, which took place at The British International School in Kuala Lumpur on May 20, 2023.

The “Big Sing” is a musical event organised to give children from many different schools in Malaysia the opportunity to perform on stage with one another. It is an opportunity for children to interact and, most importantly, to learn from one another. At the first Big Sing, sixteen institutions participated. Please view this brief video footage from the concert.  Mr. Chitambo wishes to thank all the parents for their support. We now eagerly anticipate next year’s Big Sing.

Bug-Busting Notice

Our school community needs to work together to do some serious ‘Bug-busting’.

As we approach half term, this is an ideal time to start having a head louse blitz as if everyone commits to checking their child’s hair over the one-week holiday, Marlborough will hopefully be lice free. We ask everyone to check their child’s hair and check all family members, as the lice may have crawled from person to person.

Please regularly check for any eggs or lice.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Merlin and Prep Outreach | Charity Jumble Sale by Mr. Lyon and Mrs. Selvaraj

Should you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us, either Mr. Lyon at or Mrs. Selvaraj at
