Public Exams and Covid-19 Advice

There has been a slight rise in Covid-19 cases across Malaysia in the past couple of weeks. As the public exams are firmly underway in the College, we wish to minimise any potential disruption. We would be most grateful if all pupils, parents and staff could be extra vigilant over the next few weeks until the end of term. In particular, for day pupils, if your child is displaying any symptoms, please keep them at home until they are better. For boarders, our house staff are keeping a close eye on the boarding community.

For the exam candidates, they have been reminded this week about how to keep themselves and others safe during this exam season.

They have been advised of the following:

  • Keeping yourself and others safe during exam season
  • Think about the activities with greater risk and avoid these.
  • Consider wearing a mask in social situations.
  • Whenever possible, socialise outdoors or in well-ventilated spaces.
  • Keep the College informed about any possible contacts.
  • Try not to sit directly opposite others when dining. As you will be having lunch at a different time to other year groups there is plenty of space in the dining hall.
  • If you feel unwell then do a test at home, or if you are a boarder go to the health centre for a test.

IB Covid-19 Protocol

IB has procedures to allow results to be calculated if you have COVID and are unable to sit your exams. If you test positive then you should let Dr Tomlinson know immediately. You will need to get an official test to allow him to apply for this consideration.

IGCSE Covid-19 Protocol

For IGCSE, exam boards will treat it like any other medical situation. For both Edexcel and Cambridge exams, you may still be awarded a grade provided you have completed at least 15% of the total assessment by component weighting. If you test positive then email Mr Scott and let him know immediately. You will need to get an official medical certificate – a self-administered antigen test will not be sufficient evidence to apply for Special Consideration.

Many thanks for your cooperation in this matter.

Heat Management

Some parts of northern Malaysia are experiencing particularly high temperatures and these have been reported in the Malaysian press.  The Ministry of Education has ordered that with immediate effect, and regardless of the actual temperature, there should be no outdoor activities taking place in schools.  All activities will therefore take place indoors.

The College will continue to monitor the situation, seek clarification and review its operating guidelines as appropriate and inform parents and staff accordingly.
