MCM Pupils achieve Number 1 and 2 in Malaysia

Marlborough College Malaysia is delighted to announce the success Amanda and Audrey who have been crowned number 1 and 2 in Malaysia in the U12s category for tennis. Having joined the College in Reception, Amanda and Audrey, twins, have worked at their tennis for over eight years to become Malaysian champions.

Coached by our excellent full-time residential tennis coaches who have played in international tournaments such as the Davis Cup themselves, Amanda and Audrey have been competing in the Silverlake Junior Tennis Tour for the past ten months, competing in multiple legs of the tournament. Working their way up from ranking 5th and 6th in January, the girls have played their way to the gold and silver podium places.

“I feel so proud to be in first place, but I know I need to maintain playing at this level, and improve where I can” – Amanda

Not only do Amanda and Audrey rank excellently in their singles titles, they also play together in doubles matches against competitors from across Malaysia and Singapore. When asked which was their favourite game to play together, they replied “when we faced Perak state, the game was so long. We played for over 2 hours and 30 minutes with 78 rallies, but when we won, we were so happy and relieved”.

Playing as sisters, Amanda and Audrey often have to face each other in singles matches. Although these are not their favourite matches to play, Audrey says “There is a lot of pressure because you don’t want to lose, but when you have someone else who is in your team and your family, there is always someone to play with and talk to about tennis”.

Taking inspiration from their idols, Elina Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka, Amanda and Audrey hope to continue playing far into the future, with the dream to become international tennis stars themselves. All from their first tennis lessons at MCM when they were no older than five, to Malaysian tennis number 1 and 2, the MCM community could not be more proud. Congratulations to Amanda and Audrey for their impressive feat.
