The Royal Visit: Commemorative Plaque Unveiling
To celebrate our official Tenth Anniversary opening, Marlborough College Malaysia welcomed Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, Permaisuri Johor to unveil a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion. Mirroring her opening of the site on the 24th February 2013, this event was a truly special way to mark this celebration of our College and its history.
Her Majesty enjoyed afternoon tea with the Master and Mrs Stevens, members of Council and representatives of MCM’s partner organisations before embarking on a tour of the College site .
Her Majesty was then shown the Art Cafe, where pupil representatives from throughout the College stood proudly by their artwork. From still life drawing in the Prep, to sculpture work by the Senior pupils, Her Majesty discussed each piece with its artist, accompanied by the beautiful melodies of the harp, played by one of our pupils, Tasha.
After the procession entered the Wykeham Hall, where a host of pupils, parents and staff eagerly awaited the royal party, the Master thanked Her Majesty for honouring the College and observed how far the MCM has come since its opening ten years ago. After a reflective video was played, Her Majesty unveiled the commemorative plaque alongside the Master and our Senior Prefects. Finally, everyone enjoyed a wonderful dance performance by the Johor Heritage Foundation.
Marlborough College Malaysia is grateful for the constant support of the Royal Family of Johor and thanks Her Majesty for unveiling the commemorative plaque as she did almost 10 years ago to the day.
