Marlborough Miles 2023

Marlborough College Malaysia hosted its annual Marlborough Miles on Thursday 23rd March. This is a unique day in the life of the College as pupils are not expected to attend classes, in celebration of the Sultan of Johor’s official birthday, but instead take two hours in the morning to walk or run around the Mile as many times as they are able to raise money for charity.

This year, all the money raised will go to the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation, helping provide assistance and care for patients with cancer . Money is raised through sponsorship of pupils and their miles; the more miles run, the more money goes to charity. This year, a huge 1865 miles were run or walked by our pupils, parents and staff which raised RM 9925 of sponsorship money. In addition to this, there were over RM 750 donations on the day, and an excellent RM 425 raised by the Friends of MCM food and drinks sale. Overall, the total amount raised for Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation was RM 12,063, a huge contribution to charity.

Not only is Marlborough Miles a brilliant opportunity for pupils to raise money for a worthy cause, it is also a friendly competition for both boarding houses, and individuals. This year Artemis topped the leaderboard of average miles per person with 8.12 closely followed by Apollo, Atlas and finally Gaia. The individual with the most miles was Gabriel in Year 10 who could be seen whizzing around the Mile 16 times, closely followed by Arif in Year 8 with 15 miles under his belt.

The Rotary Children’s Home was also in attendance, invited by MCM Outreach pupils. They joined our pupils, staff and parents for a walk around the Mile, averaging an impressive 5.03 miles per person before enjoying a well-deserved lunch.

Marlborough Miles is a wonderful tradition that not only celebrates the Sultan’s birthday, but also raises money for a good cause, helping others.
