Senior School | Lent Term 2023 | Week 6

Dear Parents,

This is an exciting time in our Tenth Anniversary programme, particularly for some of our Shell pupils who are experiencing life at Marlborough, Wiltshire.  Mr Ogilvie tells me that they are enjoying the experience, but not necessarily the below zero temperatures. You can see the latest exchange news on Twitter.

With our pupils in the UK we are also welcoming the MCUK staff and pupils into our community for the next two weeks.  It was great to see Artemis exploiting the sporting prowess of one of the girls to represent them in the annual Pancake Race on Tuesday.  The race was, as usual, competitive, but fun, with the pupils not running lining the route and cheering on their representatives.  Both races were hard fought and the outcomes were not decided until the last moments. This year, Wallace won the race for the girls, and by a very small margin, Sheppard took the honours for the boys. Well done to all participants.

The Senior School Cross Country race involved every member of the Senior School running around the 1.5Km route twice. All Remove, Hundred and Lower Sixth Pupils participated this week, (the Shell race will be taking place in early March). There were some very impressive runs with Caelen running an incredible 9 mins 37 secs for the two laps, the fastest amongst all the boys, and Dasha winning comfortably for the girls. As things stand, Boys and Girls boarding are in the lead for points for this competition. However, when the Shell scores are added next month, this could significantly change the final results, it is still all to play for. What was most impressive about this event is the full and positive participation of every pupil present, everyone gave their best effort and nearly always with a smile.

On Wednesday the IGCSE music recital took place in the Wykeham hall.  Congratulations to all participants for their wonderful performances.

Next week, students from the Sixth Form will be selling black ribbons throughout the school as both a sign of remembrance for the over 46,000 victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria and also a way of raising funds for Mobile Medics International, a group that has sent doctors (including some former MCM parents) to Turkey to provide emergency aid. Each ribbon will be sold for RM3, however we welcome any additional donations, should you wish to give more directly to this charity. Should you wish to purchase a ribbon in advance, please complete this form.

Please can I remind Remove parents to sign up for the information evening on the first of March.  The form to sign up can be accessed here.

Yours sincerely,

David Glynn
