IB Subject Choices: Supporting you on your journey

As Hundred mock exams end, and Lower Sixth exams begin, Hundred begin to turn their minds to the future, looking at potential IB options for their next two years at MCM. Selecting the right choices is incredibly important to their success and enjoyment of their IB Diploma, but how do we support our pupils through this process?

We provide a support network specialised to cater for each pupil individually in order to help them select the right courses. In the last week, Hundred pupils had their formal IB Options talk, introducing the content of each IB course, what is required and the possible career or university course options that it may result in. Next week Hundred parents will have a similar talk, also including how they can best help their child through the options process.

The support network from here spreads throughout the College with subject beaks and HMs holding meetings with pupils who are unsure about their choices, our Head of Sixth Form fielding questions and emails from many, and the Head of Careers and University Guidance discussing possible University courses and career options with others.

We have a particular focus on encouraging pupils to choose what is right for them – if you’re going to study a subject for two years, it should be something you enjoy. Ultimately the choices Hundred pupils make for their IB subjects should consist of what they enjoy the most, blended with subjects that will enable them to gain points, maximising their ability to access the University course they wish to apply for in the future.
