FoMCM Newsletter | Week 12A | MT2022
Welcome to the Friends of MCM Michaelmas Term Newsletter. We have had such a busy term already and it has been so good to get back to so many events, which were greatly missed during the pandemic. For many of you, this will be your first newsletter from Friends and you may not have had many experiences of Friends in the community, as we were restricted from running our events over the last couple of years.
Friends of MCM is there for all the College Community and is led by a group of parent volunteers, with the aim of connecting and supporting everyone to help strengthen MCM’s community spirit. We look forward to seeing you throughout the year.
We started off the new year with our Welcome Coffee Morning, which was the official launch of the College’s 10th Anniversary celebrations. We have also been having fun with our #FridaywithFriends events throughout the term. We have had Coffee and Chat mornings, Cookie and Lollie sales. We were pleased to be back on the sports fields with the Friends Refreshment Stall for the Marlborough 7s Football Tournament and attended the Prep School House Challenge Day. Our next Coffee Morning was the Reading workshop held in the Green Hall.
The Friends of MCM team of farmers have been busy planting, pruning and harvesting on Barton Farm. If you are interested in joining please do contact us and we can introduce you to the Wednesday morning sessions.
The Friends of MCM Food Hall on Nations Day was a resounding success, with many happy faces and colourful costumes filling the hall. There were many international treats enjoyed by children, parents and staff. A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped make it such a super event.
Most recently we held our Cancer Awareness Coffee Morning. Delicious homemade cupcakes donated by Sarah Wright were enjoyed while we had an informative talk from Dr Nadia, which covered Breast and Prostate Cancer. A colourful ribbon tree was started with Pink and Blue ribbons highlighting the charities we are supporting. Over RM2,900, with monies raised going to the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation, Breast Cancer Support Group Johor Bahru and BeatProstateCancer.my that are charities supporting these areas. Thank you for your kind donations.
Looking ahead, our last Coffee Morning of the term on the 25th November will be University themed with Miss Moody, Head of Careers and University Guidance attending. If you have any specific areas or questions you would like answered, please complete this form to submit beforehand.
Then we have the return of the Friends of MCM Christmas Fair on Sunday 4th December 12pm-4pm in the Prep School. We have the Shopping Hall full of gift vendors for your Christmas shopping, visit Santa in his Grotto, plenty of fun festive games and activities for all ages and some lovely food and drinks to complete the day. Snowflake Voucher Booklets will be used to purchase food, drinks and to participate with the games and activities. A book of 10 Snowflakes is RM50 and will be available to purchase at the entrance of the fair.
The Fair is one of our busiest events and it would not be possible without the support of the whole community. Please read below the areas where you can help.
Volunteers
Your help is needed
We are in need of parent volunteers to help with the various events at the fair. This could be manning a game or helping in the Grotto. We have many slots to fill, please click here volunteersignup.org/HLQTL to sign up.
We also are looking for donations of Lucky Jars and cakes. Please contribute where you can.
Christmas Fair Lucky Jars
A Lucky Jar is a beautifully decorated clear jar, a reused jar is best, filled with something fun that can be sold on the day. Small items such as bouncy balls, arty bits and pieces, pencils, hair clips, marbles, little cars, bath bombs, football stickers, lego and individually wrapped goodies are ideal but anything goes really! Anything the children would love. Lots of jars needed please! No sweets/chocolates. Please can all jars be brought in and left at Prep or Pre Prep receptions before Friday 2nd December. Thank you!
Cake Stall
Cakes, cupcakes, cookies or gingerbread; whatever is your favourite recipe. Please create some delightful treats to go on the Friends of MCM Cake Stall. If you have a lovely gluten free option, there is always demand.
Please label your treats if they contain nuts, alcohol or non-Halal ingredients. All bakes should be delivered to the cake stall on the day of the fair. Enter the competition for the BEST BAKE and win a prize!
