The ‘conversation with’ series has been truly inspirational on both a personal level but more importantly for our pupils here at Marlborough College Malaysia. The detail and passion that every international star has spoken about have made a huge impact on some of our very own budding sports stars. The realisation that there are several pathways to the international stage, in a variety of sports was one of many great messages received by the pupils. The knowledge that every athlete’s journey has had twists and turns on their way to success is very reassuring to hear for any ambitious pupil. It was also a great message for us all as we support every ambitious pupil seeking their version of success in later life.
Several common themes emerged from these elite athletes that I would refer to as ‘golden nuggets’ of information. Messages on understanding your own values and motives and strategies on how to identify them were invaluable. Also, how taking a systematic approach in their preparation both in training and also their living habits, resonated with many of our pupils. These life skills shared will not only help our gifted sports pupils but moreover our motivated pupils seeking guidance on how to improve and stay driven in times of adversity. The psychology now involved in both sport and business is incredibly powerful and hugely valuable in both sectors. The strategies shared around handling pressure and refocusing your mind is something that every athlete spoke passionately about and also something that they all personally prioritise in their efforts to become the best.
Due to the overwhelming success and positive feedback that we have received, we will be continuing the ‘Conversation with’ series in the next academic year. I do hope you have an enjoyable Summer and if you have missed any of the previous episodes please do follow the link below to access every conversation this series. I look forward to welcoming you all back to Marlborough Colege Malaysia both for sport and more live content from new inspirational speakers next term.
