Sixth Form Ball

The highlight of the MCM Sixth Form social calendar is, without question, the annual Sixth Form Ball.  This year’s theme was ‘Masquerade’, which gave plenty of scope for glamour and masks! Weeks of preparation had been put in by the Marlburian Committee, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that every last detail had been accounted for, even including a Venetian gondola photo booth!

After welcome mocktails in Court, where there was plenty of opportunity to show off some of the more spectacular outfits and masks, our guests were ushered into the Theatre for the main event.  The space had been gloriously transformed into a sparkling wonderland in which over 120 Sixth Formers were treated to a fabulous black tie ‘dinner and dance’ extravaganza.

With four live stage and floor acts, there was plenty of spectacles to ensure our guests were entertained. First up were Arvin Narain Silva and Timmy Tsirtsakis with a hugely energetic dance show that set the pace for the rest of the night. After starters, our first band of the night took to the stage. ‘Moonpool’ (all of whom hail from Wills House) are one of MCM’s most accomplished bands and they produced a sublime set that did not disappoint. Following the main course, during which two professional magicians worked the tables, we were treated to the next live band ‘Akatsuki‘ led with vocals from James McGee and Adrianna Adam, with Dion Hii on drums and Marcus Chang and Joanne Kim on guitars. Special mention must go to Mr Finn, who not only supported the band with his musical talent but took the masquerade theme to another level in his Batman mask!  After desert, special awards were presented by the Marlburian Committee, including best dressed, best mask, best laughs and worst jokes! Our penultimate act came from Rania Thomas, Khai Ling Ho and Hao Wen Liang with a gorgeous rendition of ‘I Can’t Help Falling in Love with you’ before a stunning solo dance routine, also from Khai Ling. With the formalities brought to an end, the dance floor was then opened up for the final hour of disco fun!

All agreed that the night was a huge success and special thanks are due to the Marlburian Committee for their amazing efforts.
