Dundee University Visit | Sixth Form

On Monday, 25th November, the sixth form Biologists were privileged to have Professor Kim Dale and Tracey Wilkinson as well as Dr David Martin, all from the University of Dundee, visit and conduct workshops with them with the theme of forensic science. Dundee University is ranked as one of the leading universities in Europe for research in Life Sciences and is ranked the top University in Biological Sciences in the UK.

The pupils used their skills of deduction, analysis, problem-solving and collaboration to work on two different scenarios set in Dundee. The theory behind the workshops complemented their IB learning with regards to the Biology topics covered and gave pupils the opportunity to experience techniques such as gel electrophoresis and micro pipetting. The visit also got the pupils thinking of the skills which are developed when studying for a Biological degree which doesn’t have to lead to a career in the area of Biological Science.

Pupils were very interested to learn of the joint degree in Biological and Biomedical Sciences that Dundee offers with the National University of Singapore (https://www.dundee.ac.uk/undergraduate/biological-biomedical-singapore/) an amazing opportunity to study at two world-class universities on one amazing course.

We are very grateful to Dundee University for providing our pupils with this exciting experience and hope to work with them again in the future.
