The GCSE Art and Design Exhibition opened on Thursday, 23rd May, in the Morris Gallery. We were delighted that so many parents, Common Room, visitors and pupils came to view the work of our 25 young artists. These impressive and varied artworks have been created over the two years of the GCSE course.
Each artist has a space showcasing his or her examination project and coursework portfolio and with so many different personal outcomes it is not obvious that they have all followed the same broad themes. The coursework portfolios follow the themes of: ‘Structures’ and ‘Fragments’. The examination or externally set assignment is based on a title provided by Edexcel which was ‘Reflection’. The pupils received the title in late January and created the final artwork in a ten-hour practical examination. Every project is supported by an impressive sketchbook. We are delighted that an impressive number of our exhibiting artists are continuing with the subject next year.
We would like to thank all those who have made this year’s GCSE Art and Design Exhibition possible but, most of all, our creative pupils and their supportive parents. Our congratulations go to all of our GCSE pupils on creating such interesting, dynamic and original pieces.
