On Saturday, 23rd February, the Marlborough and Tanglin 1st X1 cricket teams met for the first of what we hope will become an annual fixture between the two schools. We were blessed with perfect conditions from the outset, with Tanglin electing to bat first in the 30 over match. Marlborough bowled with precision, particularly in the second half of the innings, allowing them to hold a strong opposition line up to just 133 runs. Particular mentions must go to Derek Lee and Morgan Davies, both of whom stepped up and produced excellent spells of bowling towards the end of the innings. After a fine match tea and a bit of chat around the boundary, Marlborough’s batsmen took to the field in an attempt to chase a solid total. Credit must go to George Neale, who opened the batting particularly well and looked commanding at the crease. This effort unfortunately came to an end with an amazing run out and the rest of Marlborough’s top order failed to retain the run rate needed for victory. Congratulations go to Tanglin and their coaches for emerging victorious on what was an excellent day’s play.
