Afternoon Tea with the Master and Mrs Stevens

One of my favourite occasions is having a very traditional Afternoon Tea with a three-tiered cake stand laden with tempting goodies washed down with refreshing cups of hot tea.  So, it was with great pleasure that the Master and I welcomed our hard-working College Prefects on Friday, 7th December, and our well-deserving Prep School Merit Winners from Years 4 to 8 on Monday, 10th December, to join us in this tradition.    Over delicately cut sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, fairy cakes and a splendid carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, we discussed a myriad of topics ranging from the way a scent can evoke a powerful response (prompted by my festive cinnamon candle) and our respective plans for the break – always so interesting in this wonderful multi-cultural environment we have at MCM – through to how Merits are secured and what makes jelly wobble, the latter topic exercising the brains of our Prefect cadre in particular.   It was so lovely to be able to spend time with these two very special groups of pupils and to have the drawing room in the Lodge abuzz with conversation and laughter – a marvellous way to book-end the final weekend of term and an absolute joy.
