U14s travelled to Singapore on both Saturday and Sunday to play in the prestigious Saints Sevens Tournament with over 40 teams competing across U14, U16 and U18 levels.
The team started with comfortable wins against Raffles Institution and BBSS, scoring nine tries in 20 minutes across the two games. A strong 36-0 victory in the final pool game against Damai meant that the team went through to the Cup semi-final and this was despite having to stop the game on Saturday due to lightning and finishing the game on Sunday. The U14 boys then faced a French school, LFS, in the semi-final which was nail-bitingly close. The boys remained calm and composed to win 5-0 with a superb defensive effort. To the make the final at Saints Sevens in a fantastic achievement – it is only the second time in MCM’s sporting history that this has been achieved. The 2018 final saw Marlborough face Vajiravudh College from Thailand and the boys remained focused and delivered a 7-5 win to become the overall 2018 winners.
In total the team scored 114 points, conceding only five, which is a remarkable achievement and demonstrates the quality of the squad in both attack and defence.
On an individual note, Will Roue secured the MVP award for the tournament, which is a huge accolade. He scored four tries and was heavily involved with every success the team had on the day.
