On Friday, 2nd November, old rivalries came to a head once again in the annual House Football tournament. Sandwiched between rousing dance music at one end of the pitches, and the Munawir Hill boys’ slightly less tuneful chants at the other, the entire Senior School came outside to enjoy, and hopefully win, some games of football.
There were stand-out students from each House and year group. Particular praise goes to U15 captains Archie Triggs and Reily Grose Hodge both of whom stood out for their positivity, and unanimous praise for U16 captains Ella Illes and Cyrus Sharma outweighed claims such as ‘our houses were robbed’ in the post-match staff discussions. It is also very much worth mentioning those stand-out goalkeepers who helped to carry their teams to victory by catching every ball that went within 10 yards – both Jonathan Yip and Tristan Lim are able to boast of the truly impressive feat that no one could score a goal against them in the entire session. Thanks also to those parents and non-boarding house staff who turned out to enjoy the afternoon of their own volition – they were rewarded with some fantastic games of football. A personal favourite would have to be Munawir Hill against Thompson which was end-to-end, finishing 6-3 to Munawir Hill.
This was not just a day for the committed footballers, however. We were incredibly pleased to see those pupils who prefer other aspects of College life getting stuck into the competitive nature of the day for the sake of their houses, and the game of football itself. The commitment, shown by all pupils, to playing to the best of their abilities is a testament to the excellent house and inter-house spirit present in our student body, and we are immensely proud of our pupils for it.
Individual competitions were won by:
U15 B – Munawir Hill
U16 B – Wills House
U18 B – Wills House
U15 G – Butler
