Friday Night Lights

On Friday, 30th November, the MCM U18 basketball team took on our neighbours, Raffles American School, in a ‘Friday Night Lights’ event. Although the team have had some preseason friendlies, this was the first official match of the season and the U18s took the opportunity by the reigns. Marlborough started off with the defensive rigour that would set the tone for the rest of the night, gaining eight steals and two blocks in the first quarter alone.  While the game was tight throughout the first half, MCM rallied with a 10-2 run in the third quarter to put the game away. The team as a whole gave every ounce of what they had on the defensive end and managed to shake off the rust of a long preseason.  Sung Yoon Choi won defensive player of the match for his double-digit steals, whilst Shashank Doshi was noteworthy for his excellent contribution on the offensive end, coming off the bench to provide the spark that was essential in leading the team to victory.   Ritchie Lai should be commended for his creativity with an excellent double-clutch pass while being buried under the defence.  This is a promising start to their season and we wish the U18 team the best of good luck for the Breakers Cup in Phuket on the 8th of December.
