On the early morning of Saturday, 26th May, thirty-nine pupils set off for Hong Kong on a five-day music and drama performance tour. On offer was a thoroughly diverse itinerary, which included workshops on stage combat and African drumming and a theatre visit to watch the Tony Award-winning musical Evita. The highlight of the tour would certainly be the tour choir’s stellar performance on Trinity Sunday at St John’s Cathedral, where the chamber choir also had the privilege of leading liturgical singing for the Responsorial Eucharist.
Amidst all the workshops and performances, pupils also got the chance to spend a magical afternoon at Hong Kong Disneyland, and indulged in some shopping at one of Hong Kong’s largest street markets. Whilst on tour, everyone also experienced a Chinese orchestra perform live, which proved to be quite a unique experience in so far as diverse musical styles are concerned. The popular city sights also featured, as everyone enjoyed the stunning vistas of Victoria Harbour from a cruise boat.
On the service and outreach front, pupils visited an elderly care home where our musicians performed to and met residents, delighting everyone over an afternoon of witty conversation and musical entertainment. Pupils also enjoyed indulging in a variety of classic dishes from Cantonese cuisine and took in the signature night skyline of Hong Kong atop Victoria Peak.
This tour has been a wonderful success, and congratulations to all pupils involved for their excellent performances and participation whilst on tour.
