We welcomed the Canadian International School, Singapore and Ezy Swim Club, Malaysia, to this year’s Straits Swimming Gala. The weather was glorious and our Marlborough beaks were ready with their timers and clipboards as we kick-started the morning with the gruelling 400m freestyle events. The best time was secured by Jie Wei from Ezy Swim Club in just 4:33.55. The standard was therefore set high as we entered the 100m and 50m sprint events. Friends of MCM supplied delicious hot and cold drinks to spectators and competitors throughout the day, fuelling them for our 83-event marathon!
It was fantastic to see so many swimmers push themselves and take on the challenge of long distance events, or an event they had not raced before. It is through these experiences that our young people can grow stronger and be proud of their achievements.
A special mention must go to those who came first in all four of their individual events on Saturday. Some ‘stand-out’ performances from these swimmers. For the females, we had Jasmine Lim (Marlborough College Malaysia), Daniela Volschenk (Canadian International School), Kah Poh Blenda Tiang (Ezy Swim Club) and Rouxin Tan (Ezy Swim Club). For the males, we had Sophocles Ng Xin Xian (Ezy Swim Club), Ivan Martynyuk (Canadian International School) and Wei Jie Ng (Ezy Swim Club).
Congratulations to Ezy Swim Club who took our Straits Swimming trophy home for the second year consecutively – and it was very well deserved indeed!
