The fifth MCM piano competition gave us an evening of wonderful music performed by four of our most talented pianists. The repertoire served a range of tastes: Chopin’s ‘Ballade No.1 in G Minor; Op.23’, Brahms’ ‘Rhapsody No.2 in G Minor, Op.79’; Debussy’s ‘Doctor Gradus Ad Parnassum’; and Gershwin’s three ‘Preludes’ kept the audience intently engaged with the performances.
We were very fortunate to have one of Malaysia’s most respected accompanists as our adjudicator. Mr Kok-Ting Chong learnt his trade in London at Trinity College of London and the in the London concert halls and has subsequently won prestigious prizes such as the Elizabeth Schumann Lieder Prize and the English Song Prize, to name but a few. Mr Chong has also travelled all over the world as a performer and is on the board of facilitators for the Professional Development Programme of Trinity College of Music. Mr Chong gave some insightful feedback to our young performers who all rightly gained a huge amount of praise for their courage and confidence on stage.
