Sunday, 18th March, saw the second occurrence of the MCM Triathlon with nearly 450 pupils, beaks, parents and external athletes taking part in age groups ranging from Under 6 through to Under 18 for the pupils as well as an open age category. The event meant that the MCM campus again came into its own, as a fantastic sporting theatre.
The day started with the U6 race, in which over 20 junior triathletes competed. Many of them had never attempted a triathlon before, so the 25m swim, 300m cycle and 300m run around court was the perfect introduction. As expected, it was a frenetic affair with one of the main challenges being the transitioning between the three disciplines.
The morning was fast paced, with eight individual and team relay races for the Prep School taking place before 0930 and a further 11 races happening after the interval. It was great to see so many familiar faces returning from the 2017 triathlon, as well as so many novices. Over 250 Prep pupils competed in the first half of the morning and the second half saw nearly 200 athletes compete in the Senior School races, as well as in the open category (the ‘big kids’ race!)
Well done to all those who competed and a huge ‘thank you’ to all of the 140 volunteers who guided all of our swimmers, cyclists and runners safely around their courses, as well as all the friends and family who provided support for the triathletes. Special thanks also go to the catering team and the CAS groups who were selling much-needed snacks; to all those members of staff who contributed to the planning process; and not least to Andy Foo and his team from Eventure Global for helping stage the triathlon.
Congratulations go to the 2018 House cup winners:
