Since November 2017, Marlborough College Malaysia has been offering a six-session programme entitled ‘Leadership for Young Women’. Aimed at Sixth Form boarding girls, the programme focuses on developing self-awareness and the soft skills that will help the girls fulfill their potential as leaders both within the College and in life after school, whether that be at university or in the workplace. The Programme, developed by Heather Stevens based on her own academic and professional experience, very much complements the balanced nature of education that the IB so strongly promotes, and contributes to our young women being prepared to become well-rounded global leaders of the future.
It is within this context that the College was delighted to host Her Excellency Vicki Treadell, the British High Commissioner for Malaysia, who visited Johor on 21st March with a delegation of prominent business women from the UK. Her Excellency strongly believes in the importance of girls’ education and particularly the empowerment of females in both the workplace and in schools. After enjoying lunch in the company of the Prefects, the visiting group was shown around the wonderful IB Art Exhibition where they had the opportunity to speak to some of the talented artists. They also spent time with eight of our boarding girls who either have completed, or are currently attending, the Leadership Programme, and the lively discussions continued over Afternoon Tea in the Master’s Lodge.
As Marlborough College Malaysia continues the tradition of innovation which it has inherited from its sister school in the UK, it is very exciting that we were able to have such a champion for girls’ education and a group of truly remarkable women leaders visiting the College and inspiring the girls. We are very much looking forward to Her Excellency returning to the College at a future date.
