The IB recital has been one of the most anticipated events of the term so far. We are fortunate to have some outstanding musicians in our LVI and UVI years, and they did not fail to impress us this evening. The evening began with a gripping performance of Sungha Jung’s ‘Flaming’ played on the acoustic guitar with much skill and finesse. In direct contract to this, we were then treated to a Chopin ‘Nocturne’, followed by some Jazz and Funk. The first half concluded with a fast paced funk piece, ‘Dean Town’ by the American Band Vulfpeck – a great way to finish a fantastic first half.
After the interval, an Upper VI pupil gave a challenging, yet highly polished twenty minute piano recital. The repertoire consisted of Scarlatti’s famous Sonata in B minor; the first movement of Beethoven’s ‘Patthetique’ sonata; Chaminade’s ‘Automne’; and two of Poulenc’s Novlettes. The evening clearly demonstrated the phenomenal musical talent of pupils at Marlborough.
