On Wednesday 8th March the Prep School welcomed twenty pupils from Sungai Melayu School for a two-hour creative music workshop with our Year 6 pupils. It was a lively morning of singing and music-making on the mini-marimbas and djembes, with our pupils joining the fray helping out with some impromptu instrumental coaching. The music we worked on revolved around the traditional Malay children’s folk song, Burong Kakak Tua. The Sungai Melayu pupils did a great job, not only for helping correct some of our Malay pronunciation, but also for being enthusiastic and creative musicians who helped to guide the songwriting process when we broke out into sectional rehearsals.
It was an absolute pleasure to be able to host the local school children again, and we look forward to many more collaborative music projects between both schools in the near future.
