The Prep School embarked on its inaugural Music tour to Melbourne over the half term break last month. It was a 5-day itinerary of performing and sight-seeing, and the group was made up of 36 singers and instrumentalists ranging from Year 5 to Shell. Over the course of the tour, the Choir performed at St Paul’s Cathedral – the largest Anglican cathedral in Australia – and sang evening mass at St Francis’ Church. We also had the opportunity to visit two separate residential, care homes, where we performed and met the residents.
Sight-seeing options included trips to the theatre to watch Matilda and Kinky Boots, as well as a backstage tour of the Melbourne Recital Centre where the choir had the chance to take to the stage and sing in the stunning (albeit empty) performance space. We also attended a music workshop led by Arts Centre Melbourne, and on the last day managed to watch both Houses of Parliament for the State of Victoria in session, as well as fit in a trip to the Sea Life Aquarium. Pupils also enjoyed their own free time, going out in the city bowling, shopping and dining out.
Many thanks to the team of beaks who have provided their unwavering dedication and help towards the success of the tour, all our pupils for their commitment and hard work and to our parents for their support towards Marlborough’s very first performance tour.
