The fourth Marlborough College Malaysia Art Auction took place on the evening of Thursday 17th November and was very well attended by parents and Common Room. This regular MCM event, where artworks created by pupils in each year group are auctioned in aid of charity, combines many aspects of what the College is all about; teamwork, creativity and helping others.
The theme for the event this year was Through Artists’ Eyes, and pupils were encouraged to take inspiration from various artists throughout history in order to create their masterpieces. The Master once again took to the stage as auctioneer and was honoured, both by the Upper Sixth artists, who created a portrait of him, inspired by Van Gogh, and by the Friends of MCM who managed to secure the highest bid for the portrait and presented it to the Master.
The evening was extremely successful, raising over RM60,000 for this year’s beneficiaries: Nur Ehsan, a home for the elderly in JB; Calvary Victory Centre, a school in JB that caters for the needs of children on the autistic spectrum; JARO (Johor Area Rehabilitation Organisation); and the Asbury-Welfare PhD fellowship in memory of Nicky Asbury who was a Marlborough parent.
