Art Stage 2016

On Thursday 21st January, the GCSE and IB art pupils went to Art Stage Singapore in Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre accompanied by several members of staff. The Expo featured 170 galleries from 33 countries and 30 global cities. The theme of the Art Expo this year was “We are Asia”. We arrived at Marina Bay Sands at approximately 11.20am. Since the Art Stage opened at 12.00 noon, we walked around the building in groups hoping to take pictures related to the theme that we are working on. Remove: “Structure”, Hundred: “Past, present and future” and Sixth Form: “Global issues”.

Everyone was astonished the moment we stepped into the hall. Having the opportunity and privilege to walk around the hall that day is probably the dream of every Art pupil. While walking around, some of us were lucky enough to meet the artists. We took this opportunity and asked relevant questions.

After walking around for an hour, we met up before going for lunch. After lunch, most of the pupils went to a booth where we painted tiny canvases. It was organised by a company called “Red Pencil”. When we finished painting, we showed our artwork to the art therapists there and they had to guess how we felt when we painted it. It was an incredible experience as the therapists were on point and we got to keep our canvases as well.

We then went back to the hall to continue enjoying the wonderful artworks. While walking around, some of us came across a badminton court where we played badminton and contemplated on the artworks. The ones who didn’t play badminton either made ‘fake passports’ at a nearby gallery or continued to walk around the galleries.

Although we had about 4 to 5 hours to walk around the hall, time passed by in a blink of an eye. Before we knew it, it was time to go back to school. We met up at the entrance and went back to the bus. As we made our way back to school, we discussed the artworks and what we found interesting. We are all incredibly grateful for this wonderful opportunity.
