U13 Girls Netball Match Report

Yesterday the U13 netball team travelled to Kallang Netball Centre once again. This time there were two matches to be played back-to-back which is quite a feat when each match is 40 minutes long. We also knew that that our first game would be our toughest yet but, after last week’s victory against TTS, spirits were high.

Stepping onto court to play the Australian International School the MCM girls were worried about the obvious height advantage. They needn’t have been. MCM girls rose to the occasion wonderfully, shortening their game and delivering some incredibly fast-paced netball. After winning the first quarter we ended up being two goals down at the end of the first half. We knew we would have to fight back hard, looking for the turnovers and fight back hard we did. The final score was MCM 16 – AIS 13. All the girls played exceptionally well but praise must go to Ella who held her space in the circle incredibly well and sank some awesome shots under immense pressure.

Although incredibly tired after the last hard fought victory, in just five minutes the girls were back on court to play ACS. The style of netball totally changed and it took MCM the first quarter to settle into the rhythm of this new game. Once MCM started to put the pressure on however they began to dominate possession, scoring off nearly every one of their centers and defending hard to win the turn overs with some excellent interceptions. The final score was MCM 18 – ACS 5. A special mention must go to Olivia for her ferocious defending. Olivia single-handedly took on two attackers in the circle and still managed to gain possession.

Well done to every single one of the girls in the squad. Yesterday you not only played exceptionally well as a full squad but you also showed excellent sportsmanship, once again making me and the school very proud.
