MCM U16 Football Triumph

On Tuesday 3rd September 2013 Marlborough College Malaysia travelled to Singapore to play Stamford International American School in an enthralling match.

MCM found their shooting boots as soon as they stepped foot on the pitch to fend off the Stamford American School side. Young gun Ebe Igwe struck in the early minute, assisted by Tek Kian’s throw in, to offer the MCM football team the lead. However, the opposing team did not amble as they constantly fought for their equaliser and tested the MCM defensive line.

As minutes went by, central midfielder Rory Tan notched the challengers by firing a powerful volley past the keeper. MCM dominated the rest of the first half and Gavin Singh and Stefan T managed to squeeze in two more goals before the half time whistle blew.

As the second half began MCM were determined to keep a clean sheet. They did not allow their focus to falter and kept the opposition caged in their own half. MCM were soon rewarded for their hard work and the goals began to rack up with Stefan T getting his hat-trick, as well as goals from Tek Kian Low, Anyalemma Igwe and Dan Hall from the centre back position. A patient Julian Holle was finally rewarded with a sweet left footed volley, which soared right into the back of the net.

Zayd Azman, Alex Goh, Colm Tan and Ary Hashim defended ferociously and there were several spectacular one handed saves from the goalkeeper Ameer Chugthai. Physically, MCM battered their opposition, throwing themselves into every tackle and keeping up the pressure to ensure they kept their clean sheet.

A win was on the cards for MCM but the home side persistently fought back, continuously testing goalkeeper Ameer Chughtai. We sat back slightly after the break, content to defend the lead earned by the forwards, and were pleased to finish with a win of 9-0.
