On Sunday 9th December in the evocative chill of the air conditioning, the Wykeham Hall assumed a festive air with traditional decorations, the promise of mince pies and mulled wine. A packed congregation joined over 100 boys and girls from the College’s choirs and orchestras as Marlborough College Malaysia celebrated its Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.
Following a welcome from the Master and opened by Ven. E. John, the College Chaplain, Reilly Grose-Hodge opened the service in time-honoured manner with a delicate solo of the first verse of “Once in Royal David’s City.” A stunning range of ancient and modern carols were performed by the choirs, while the congregation had lots of opportunity to join in many old favourites such as “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” Johanna Flodin’s stunning version of “O Holy Night” sent a wave of festive excitement through the Wykeham Hall.
The lessons were beautifully read by Presley Brooks (Year 6), Lois Lee (Year 7), Oliver Grubb (Year 8), Johnny Harrison (Hundred), James Gibson and Uma Scott (Senior Prefects) and by Mr Nick Eatough (Head of Senior School) and Mrs Rachel Eaton-Jones (Head of Prep School) with the Ninth Lesson being delivered by Mr Stevens, the Master.
The generous retiring collection of almost RM5,000 was presented to the Meningitis Research Foundation.
