It was an early Saturday morning as the MCM U13 bus departed for Singapore for a long-awaited hockey fixture. The U13s had been training hard during their after-school sessions on Monday. Following a warm-up and a flag-giving ceremony, our first half started. MCM was solid, clearing danger and playing on the counter-attack. The team was getting into its stride in the first half, only narrowly losing 1-0. We had a break between our two halves, so we had time to rehydrate and get ready for the next match. The second half was much better but MCM was very unlucky. After a few splendid saves from Olly Grubb, our defence was broken and Jurong West seemed to get into its stride after that, scoring two goals in quick succession. MCM was playing hard and finally, our goal had come. It was brilliantly worked out from the back and it plunged out to Alfie Tomlinson who buried it. After another quick goal from Jurong West, the game was over. MCM shook hands and thoroughly enjoyed our first hockey fixture of the year.
